Havlíčkův Brod is an attractive ancient town and its history goes back to the beginning of the 13th century. It has been situated for 750 years on the river Sázava, in a region that abounds in natural beauties of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands.
About one hundred monuments have been preserved from the city’s rich history and in the 1980´s the centre of Havlíčkův Brod was proclaimed an urban monument preservation zone. The town walls with their bastions, the historical centre with a Baroque square, the medieval Štáfl´s cottage, a fountain with a Triton statue and a legendary symbol of betrayal at the town hall tower (containing the skeleton of a watchman named Hnát) or one of the oldest bells in the Czech lands named Vilém represent only a small part of the historical wealth and sights that draw visitors to Havlíčkův Brod.
