The region of Strakonice in Southwest Bohemia celebrates Easter with many traditions. On Maundy Thursday, the bells are silenced and replaced by children with rattles walking through the village.
Good Friday and Holy Saturday used to be connected to a number of magical acts and the tour with Judas is still honoured today. Easter Sunday is celebrated with bread, a lamb or Easter meatloaf. Typically on Easter Monday, the boys set about whipping the girls. For this, they are given eggs and sweets by the girls.
Dear readers, we would like to invite you to Strakonice to visit the Here Comes the Spring Exhibition from 7. 3. – 2. 4. to be held in the capital hall of Strakonice Chateau. You are also welcome to visit the Hoslovice Water Mill, situated 17 kilometres from Strakonice. This is a unique water mill situated on the upper water and is more than 400 years old. We organize various craft events at the mill throughout the year. You can also visit our ethnographic exhibition and the pet centre.
