61 years of a unique phenomenon.
The Revolving Auditorium in Český Krumlov will celebrate 61 years of existence this year. In 2019, it will offer a wide variety of musical gems.
The first will be Sleeping Beauty, which will turn the castle gardens into a fairy-tale kingdom from 24 July to 28 July 2019. Tchaikovsky’s ballet music belongs to the “golden era” of the classical ballet heritage of the 19th century. It will come back to life thanks to a new dance production on the Revolving Auditorium, which will delight not only lovers of classical ballet, but many others.
The second new piece of this year’s musical summer will be the premiere of Giacomo Puccini‘s Turandot, which tells the story of a beautiful but cruel princess, who gets rid of her suitors by giving them riddles and if they answer wrong, they are beheaded. Prince Calaf answers three riddles correctly and the princess can be his, but instead he risks everything to win her heart. The oriental fairy-tale with strong symbolic links will be produced in the Italian original in the castle gardens from 2 August to 10 August 2019.
The set of musical productions will be concluded with another classical work, the charming Rusalka by Antonín Dvořák. The magical story of a water sprite will charm the audience from 13 August to 18 August 2019. This production, directed by Jiří Heřman and musical interpretation by Mario De Rose, ranks among the most original theatre projects on the Revolving Auditorium and does not sound better anywhere else than here.
