Spring is fast approaching and will soon be knocking on the door of the Hradec Králové Region. Free days during Easter are traditionally associated with travel and not just to visit relatives but also to enjoy varied tourist activities. April and its weather are usually adored by gardeners but it is also the time when various historical sites awake from their winter hibernation. The last day in the month can be spent in a mystic way – it is the Walpurgis Night – connected with the burning of witches. All Day Free Cycle-buses or “Peddling in Krkonoše”
On Saturday, May 30 Vrchlabí square will be the venue for the opening of the tourist and cycling season. Everyone – children, parents, grandmas and granddads are invited. We want to show you the spring, summer and autumn Krkonoše. If you come to join us, register yourselves in the Krkonoše Regional Information Centre, Vrchlabí. A cycling trip will kick off at the square leading to all four cardinal points. You won’t need to peddle up steep hills; you can use chair lifts or the Krkonoše cycle-buses. On this day they will be running for you free of charge. Young cyclists can participate in a ride on Vrchlabí square which will highlight their abilities. In the adjoining castle park an art competition for the best drawing of a cyclist will be held.

Festive Opening of the Tourist Season in Podzvičinsko
On Friday, May 8 from 11 a.m. Zvičin peak will be the venue for various competitions prepared for children, accompanied with musical performances. Šlitr’s Spring
On April 24 – 26, the 15th year of the Šlitr’s Spring festival will be held in Rychnov nad Kněžnou, aimed at fans of the composer, musician and multi-faceted artist, Jiří Šlitr. The programme for the whole weekend includes concert performances by swing bands, actors from the Semafor Theatre (among others also Jiří Suchý and Jitka Molavcová), fi lm projection, and an exhibition of Šlitr’s drawings, including the unique picture of Rychnov. A commemorative plaque of Jiří Šlitr will be unveiled in the building of F. M. Pelcl Grammar School.

Fourth Year of the Cycling Season Opening
On Saturday, April 25, as is the tradition we are opening the cycling season in the Podorlicko Foothills. This event, again organised by the Voluntary Union of Orlice Municipalities, will focus on cycle-ways weaving through the beautiful rural landscape. Come to Palacký Square in Kostelec nad Orlicí and get registered in the new mobile info-bus. The early birds among you will receive a souvenir. For the end of the day musical performances have been prepared along with entertainment for children and many prizes for successful competitors.

Welcoming Springtime
On Wednesday, April 1, the Hradec Králové Mayor Ing. Otakar Divíšek, will “unlock” the city landmark – the White Tower, from where you may cast your eyes over all sides and corners of Hradecko. At the same time a new tourist route called “Hradec Králové Stronghold” will be opened, accompanied with several pleasant surprises. From April 30 to May 31 you can witness for yourselves that the White Tower is really haunted both day and night. Metují will be the venue of the offi cial opening of the tourist season accompanied by a number of musical and dance performances, attractions for children, an arts and crafts market, as well as evening tours of the castle. Come and experience many enjoyable moments. Throughout the Česká Skalice vicinity, you can follow the trail of B. Němcová, visiting places associated with this great female Czech novelist, such as the Maloskalický Museum Grounds, Mill, Old Bleachery and Mandl in Babiččino údolí (Grandmother’s Valley) and Ratibořice Castle. Vizmburk Castle near Červený Kostelec will be open to the public for the fi rst time, on May 1. So don’t miss out on it.
