The former Baroque chateau in Rudoltice near Lanškroun, was near completion in 1712, but in 1714 it partially burnt down. For this reason the chateau, apart from the right front tower, was demolished (1756). The tower was repaired (1802), the ground floor was used as a taproom and the fi rst fl oor as a dance hall. After 1818 meals became available here and the Castle Hill as well as the restaurant was soon a popular tourist destination.

Hanička Fort
After Hitler came to power, Czechoslovakia was the most endangered country. The elongated shape of the republic was unfavourable for defence in the event of an attack from the north and therefore it was decided on building here a massive system of reinforced concrete fortifi cations inspired by the Maginot Line. The construction started in 1935 and continued at pace. After the adoption of the Munich Agreement these fortifi ed structures were abandoned, including the Hanička Fort.

Česká Třebová
The town pays great attention to the protection and restoration of cultural sites. In 1995 the town centre was declared an urban conservation area and in 1996 the Old Square underwent a large scale reconstruction. Probably the most unique structure in the town is the St. Catherine Rotunda, the only one of its kind in Eastern Bohemia. Every November the traditional Jabkancová Fair is held on the occasion of St. Catherine’s Day.
