The town, situated in the Zdobnice River valley in the Orlické Foothills is known mainly for its production of bobbin lace, whose history here started in the early 16th century. Its triumphant march through Europe is documented in the Museum of Lace. Did you know that in 1889 the fi rst specialised lace school was opened in Vamberk, the only one in the ČR, where the craft of lace making is taught even today?
When you go to explore the town, you can use as your guide the informative sightseeing route called “Vamberk Stops”, which will tell you about the town history and lead you to the Jewish cemetery. It will also show you lace making as well as stonemasonry and introduce significant town personalities, such as the musician and composer Jan V. H. Voříšek and Josef R. Vilímek, the founder of a famous publishing house in Prague.

And what else can Vamberk surprise you with? In the Church of St. Prokop you will fi nd a unique two-manual organ from the early 18th century. Moreover, there is the Vamberk stone bridge with statues of saints and the suspended wooden bridge in Peklo. You can end the town tour by strolling to Vyhlídka Cottage, where you can buy tasty refreshments and admire the beautiful view of the town and the panorama of the Orlické Mountains.
