The metropolis of Wallachia, Gateway to Beskydy and Wallachian Athens - are attributes which Valašské Meziříčí proudly boasts. Along with the traditional hospitability and friendliness of local people, these are good reasons to visit this town.
The history of the town started in the Modele Ages, with the fi rst record dating back to 1297. The dominating feature is the Renaissance Zierotin Castle from the mid 16th century, which falls under the urban conservation area and represents the centre of town cultural life. The conservation area lists 45 burgher houses, mainly from the 16th and 17th centuries, the most valuable being the House of Twelve Apostles, Town Hall and the Church of the Assumption. The museum located in Kinský Castle ranks among the oldest Czech museums in Moravia, also encompassing the Church of the Holy Trinity. Other places worth visiting include the Moravian Tapestry Manufactory, Baroque Granary, observatory, former prison chapel - etc. Valašské Meziříčí is intersected with a network of marked cycle ways and several nature trails, such as the T. G. Masaryk Nature Trail, leading from the square to Jarcovská kula (8 metre-high sandstone rock) in Hostýnské vrchy (13 km) and the Jan Karafi át Nature Trail, leading from the railway station, via Velká Lhota to Bystřička Dam (14 km). In bad weather you can visit the indoor swimming pool, named in 2009 as the pool of the year.
